Swifts F.C.

Players Profile

Haydn Whitcombe – Goalkeeper – DOB: 24/03/93

Now in his second season with the Swifts the young shot stopper is a Chelsea fan and has aspirations to play for his supported side one day. Stourport Swifts is his first club.

Graham Ashton – Defence – DOB: 16/08/82

“Gashy” joined the club in December 2011 having previously played for the likes of AFC Wulfrunians, Redditch United, Chasetown, Rushall Olympic and, it says here, Shamrock Rovers. A keen supporter of local football, especially those with strong chairmen.

Mark Benbow – Defence – DOB: 07/05/78

Mr Benbow has been with the Swifts since 2009 and describes himself as a “cultured centre half”. He previously had spells with Worcester City, Bromsgrove Rovers, Joondalup (Australia), Redditch United (Not Australia), Stourbridge and Merthyr Tydfil. Bertie is a Man United fan, which he says is a family thing so is just about acceptable and that he would like to play in the Bernabau, home of Real Madrid.

Jordan Jones – Defence – DOB: 06/06/92

Signed for the 2012-13 Season having previously played for Studley.A Liverpool fan who would like to play at Wembley. (So would most of the Liverpool players).

Dennis Pearce – Defence – DOB: 10/09/74

“Pearcy” has had more clubs than Tiger Woods and he was the only player that had to write on the back of his sheet to include them all! He has a wealth of experience under his belt having previously played for Aston Villa, Wolves, Notts County, Peterborough United, Northwich Victoria, Redditch United, Worcester City, Telford United, Halesowen Town, Bromsgrove Rovers and Stratford Town. He joined Swifts in pre-season 2011 but unfortunately due to injury didn’t feature as much as he would have liked last term.

Mark Smith – Defence – DOB: 24/06/85

Signed just before the start of the season ‘Smudge’ has had previous spells at Causeway United, Halesowen Town and Stratford Town. If he could play for any side it would be West Brom, as he would like to score a few own goals. Yes, Smudge is a Wolves fan!

Kevin Spencer – Defence – DOB: 22/07/89

“Spenner” joined towards the end of last season having previously had spells at Evesham and Redditch United. Spenner is a Birmingham City fan as he likes to have a break from football now and again.

Jamie Willets – Defence – DOB: 02/08/92

Jamie has been with the club since November 2009 where he began playing for Swifts’ U18’s side and with solid performances he has now cemented his place in the first team. Jamie has also had a spell with Cradley Town. Jamie is a Kidderminster Harriers fan and would love to play at Wembley.

Aaron Bannister – Defence/Midfield – DOB: 18/07/93

Another player that joined for the start of this season, ‘AJ’ was previously with Kidderminster Harriers’ Youth Set-up. This young man lives for football and has aspirations to play in the football league one day.

Joe Adams – Midfield – DOB: 18/11/91

Previously having had spells with Redditch United and Studley Town, ‘Joey’ joined the Swifts towards the end of pre-season. A villa fan, because his Dad supported Birmingham City, Joey is looking forward to getting some time on the pitch at Swifts.

Calvin Dinsley – Midfield – DOB: 23/10/90

“Dins” joined towards the end of 2011 having previously been on the books of Cambridge United and Evesham United. As a youngster he played for West Bromwich Albion and he has supported them ever since.

Kyonn Evans – Midfield – 10/07/92

Kyonn, or ‘Crayon’ to his team mates, signed at the beginning of last season having previously been with Worcester City. He is a Liverpool fanatic and would love to play at Anfield.

Paul Hurrell – Midfield – DOB: 14/10/93

Another former Kidderminster Harriers Academyplayer, Hurrell joined the Swifts just prior to the start of the season. He was on Harriers’first team books towards the end of last season so we have high hopes he can recreate some of the form that got him noticed by the Aggborough management team while in a Swifts shirt.

Tim Jackson – Midfield – DOB: 19/06/83

Signed in February 2012 having previously had spells with Stourbridge Town, Rushall Olympic, Shifnal, Tipton Town and Stratford Town, ‘Jacko’ is an industrious player that always gives 100%. A keen Wolves fan (someone’s got to be I suppose), he would love the opportunity to play alongside Lionel Messi at the Camp Nou.

Dan Taylor – Midfield – DOB: 16/03/94

“Tayl’s” joined Swifts on Boxing Day last season and is a Manchester United supporter, which he puts down to being a family tradition. Personally I would have asked to be adopted but Tayl’s would love to be given the chance to play at Old Trafford.

Gary Walker – Midfield – DOB: 10/02/88

“Gaz” signed in January 2012 having previously had spells with Worcester City and Evesham United. A ‘Family Guy’ loving West Brom fan, Gaz, like many of Swifts’ players, would love to play at Wembley.

Louis Bridges – Forward – DOB: 10/08/91

“Bridgey” joined Swifts in 2009 having had spells at Worcester City, Evesham United, Westfields and Pershore Town. Had a good pre-season scoring some fine goals and he’ll be hoping that form stays with him throughout this MFA campaign.

Rory Curtis – Forward – DOB: 15/09/89

An ardent Birmingham City fan, Rory joined Swifts earlier in 2012 having previously played for Walsall, Evesham and Rugby.

Alex Lavery – Forward – DOB: 17/05/89

‘Savo’ has been with the club since 2005, he spent a lot of time out of the side last year through injury so will be hoping to break back in during this season. A keen Aston Villa fan Savo would also like to try his hand at baseball and turn out at Yankee Stadium.

Lewis Pountney – Forward – DOB: 17/05/88

Lewis has had several spells for Stourport over the last few seasons and has always managed to find the back of the net. A joker, amongst a pack of many at Swifts, he has listed his previous clubs as a 5 iron! Lewis is an Aston Villa fan and is likened to Frank McAvennie.

Dave Connell – Assistant Manager – DOB: 25/10/48

Joined with manager, Rod Brown, in the Summer of 2011, having previously been involved with ‘the gaffer’ at Pershore Town, Malvern Town, Bromsgrove Rovers and Stratford Town. Born just around the corner from Villa Park, Dave is an Aston Villa fan who would have loved the chance to play for his side. He would also like the chance to turn out for the Swifts, and on the back of some of last season’s performances by the lads I am quite surprised he wasn’t selected.
